The Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau, fueled by Monster Energy, has officially been called "ON" by Contest Director George Downing. The ASP specialty sanctioned event will kick off at 8am. Wave face heights are in the 25-35-foot range.
Held in honor of the legendary Hawaiian waterman, Eddie Aikau, The Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau, fueled by Monster Energy, gathers the most skillful and dynamic big-wave surfers from around the globe. It is the world's longest running and most prestigious big-wave invitational and is the only one sanctioned by the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP), the governing body of professional surfing.
Because The Eddie requires waves at least 20 feet in size during the annual one-month holding period, The Eddie has only run seven times in its 24-year history.

I awoke last night to the sound of thunder (well actually it was 4:30 am September 12, 2009). How far off I sat and wondered. Ode to Bob Seger's Night Moves, http://www.lyricsfreak.com/b/bob+seger/night+moves_20021973.html
Drove to the Marin Headlands but it was way too foggy so I went low near the Coast Guard station for these shots of the Golden Gate Bridge. Sat in my car with a remote shutter listening to podcasts. Wrapped a poncho around my camera when the rain started. Took lots of shots, "Dark and stormy morning" was about my fourth shot of the morning when I got lucky. You should of heard me say "YEEEESS" when I saw the huge strike and the sky lit up white/blue with light. Ooooh, what a lucky man he was (Ode to ELP).
